Was D3151 scrapped at Blyth or elsewhere?

D3151 was withdrawn in November 1967 whilst based at Thornaby.  Disposal listings  generally give its disposal as Hughes Bolckow, Blyth, Northumberland.  This is likely because they have used ‘The Railway Observer’ of October 1976 (p.328) which recorded its disposal as being to H. Bolckow, Blyth around April 1968.  However, ‘Pronounced Life Extinct’ which was compiled before ‘The Railway Observer’ reference was published  records disposal as at Derby Works.

No observations at Blyth have been traced, neither have any at Thornaby after withdrawal.  Any observations of this locomotive in February 1968 or later would be thus of great interest.

Suspiciously the Hughes Bolckow disposal information fits the pattern of ‘Zulu’ fabrications. It appeared following an appeal in ‘The Railway Observer’ for information about the disposal of locomotives that were not known.  D2206, D2318, D2339, D3144 & D3146 were also mentioned in the same context at the time and are also unproven disposals.

Thus the disposal of D3151 to Hughes Bolckow, Blyth is unproven.
