Was D2323 actually scrapped at Rotherham?

D2323 was withdrawn in July 1968 whilst based at Knottingley. Disposal listings generally give its disposal as being to C. F. Booth, Rotherham.  The source probably being ‘The Railway Observer ‘ of August 1976 (p.259-260) which stated that “2309/2323 from Knottingley were sold to R. E. Trem, Finningley, in March 1969 and consigned to C. F. Booth, Rotherham, and were both noted in a west-bound freight at Featherstone on 9th April 1969″.  The latter snippett having previously been mentioned in the June 1969 edition (p.204) which under WAKEFIELD – KNOTTINGLEY mentioned that “On 9th April 6949 hauled a freight towards Wakefield in the evening, withdrawn shunters 2309/2323 being at the head of the wagons”.

No sightings of D2323 subsequent to 9th April at Rotherham or elsewhere have though emerged.  However, it is worth noting that ‘The Railway Observer’ of June 1969 (p.192) also says that “D2208/9/38, D2323 have been noted working at N. C.B., Manvers Main Colliery, Wath”.  Whilst it now concluded D2323 was a typo for D2332, perhaps note.
