Where was D2602 scrapped?

D2602 was withdrawn in July 1967 whilst based at Goole. Disposal listings generally give Slag Reduction Company, Ickles, Rotherham.

‘The Railway Observer’ didn’t report a disposal until April 1973 (p.124) when following an appeal for information it gave the disposal as Barlborough Metals Rotherham.  No scrap yard of that name in Rotherham have been traced.  There was a company called Barlborough Metals based in Barlborough, Derbyshire, not far from Rotherham.  This company though was a “brassplater” who dealt in railway carriages and wagons but not locomotives.

If D2602 did go to Rotherham for scrapping then the Slag Reduction Company would be a likely recipient.  So far, no sightings confirming this have been traced, neither have any sightings of the locomotive in Rotherham.
