Was D3143 scrapped at G. Cohen, Kettering?
D3143 was withdrawn in August 1969 whilst based at Thornaby. Disposal listings generally give its disposal as George Cohen & Company, Kettering. The source is likely to have been ‘The Railway Observer’ of July 1971 (p.226), the information being repeated in April 1976 (p.117).
The most recent sighting of D3143 traced is one of it at Thornaby on 21st March 1970. No subsequent sightings of D3143 have been traced and none that suggest it did go to Kettering.
Bother references in ‘The Railway Observer’ appeared following an appeal for information about the locomotives disposal and fit the pattern of ‘Zulu’ fabrications.
Thus the disposal of D3143 to Geotge Cohen & Company, Kettering is unproven.
