Was D2593 scrapped at Airdrie?

D2593 was withdrawn in December 1967 from Dunfermline Upper. 

Generally, disposal listings suggest that D2593 saw further use at CEGB Chadderton Power Station, Greater Manchester.  The reason for this would appear to have probably been ‘The Railway Observer’ of December 1968 (p.425) which recorded that D2587/93, D2617 had been sold to the Hunslet Engine Company, Leeds.  Prior to this, ‘The Railway Observer’ of October 1968 (p.369) recorded that D2593 was at Dunfermline Upper, significantly it was in the company of D2587 and D2617, at the same time D2595 was at Thornton. The disposal of D2595 was recorded in ‘The Railway Observer’ of June 1973 (p.191) which stated that “2595 withdrawn 6/68 from Thornton was sold to Hunslets, Leeds about September 1968 and appeared on a B.B.C T.V. “Made in Britain” programme.  It is believed to have been cannabilised to provide spares for 2587/93 which eventually were sold from Hunslets to Chadderton Power Station, Manchester”.

The above is generally reflected in disposal listings and listings of ex BR locomotives in Industrial Service.  However, it has been established that the Hunslet Engine Company only acquired three locomotives, not four, and that these were D2587, D2595 and D2617.  D2587 and D2595 being the pair that went to Chadderton Power Station and D2617  being the locomotive that was cannibalised.

This leaves the actual disposal of D2593 to be established.  Most likely it went to G. H. Campbell, Ardrie with other locomotives disposed of from Dunfermline Upper and Thornton at the time.    No observations or other evidence supporting this has though so far come to light.
