Where was D2320 scrapped?

D2320 was withdrawn in February 1968 whilst based at Thornaby.  The first published disposal listing ‘Pronounced Life Extinct’ gives its disposal as  seeing further use with NCB South Yorks, qualified with (if extant).  ‘The Railway Observer’ of October 1971 (p.337) had given the disposal as Cadeby Colliery, date not known.  This did suggest that it might have been seen at Cadeby Colliery. The fact that ‘Pronounced Life Extinct’ doesn’t mention Cadeby Colliery suggests it was no longer there but they hadn’t establish what had become of it.  Movements of locomotives between collieries often took place though so it could have moved to another colliery rather than being scrapped.

Subsequent disposal listings generally give a disposal of C. F. Booth, Rotherham.  No doubt because they had used ‘The Railway Observer’ of March 1977 (p.86) which following an appeal for information in February 1975 (p.41) stated “2320, withdrawn February 1968 from Thornaby, was sold to R. E. Trem, Finnengley and consigned to C. F. Booth, Rotherham around January 1969”.    

No observations confirming either disposal have been found, neither have any at Thornaby or elsewhere after withdrawal.
